Khwai Tented Camp

Set within the Okavango’s community-run Khwai Concession, the camp laps up its beautiful lagoon front setting. Perched on a raised deck, with sweeping lagoon views connecting to the Khwai River, this beautiful camp seamlessly blends into the surrounding woodland area. Simple yet elegant, Khwai Tented Camp strikes the perfect balance between homely touches whilst not detracting from the wild environment.

The camp consists of six en suite tents all dotted along the lagoon for the utmost privacy. The camp preserves the romance of yester-year, a simpler life in harmony with nature. There are no permanent structures; everything can be removed to leave the wilderness exactly as we found it, minimizing our impact on the environment. As Khwai is a community-run concession all proceeds from tourism go directly to help the local people and projects through the Khwai Community Trust.

Besides the day-time drives which can feature Africa’s big attractions – lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, elephant, buffalo, hippo and giraffe – you will be able to explore nature after sunset with a night drive.

Standard Safari Tent
Six comfortable and spacious meru style tents elegantly set-up on wooden decking. Accommodation includes en-suite bathroom facilities with running water, flush toilets and showers.

Game Drives
Lead by experienced guides, you’ll see magnificent wildlife indigenous to the area. Your guide will show you the hidden spots best for game viewing and give you an insider’s knowledge. With years of experience our African Bush Camps guides are known for being some of the best in the business.

Walking Safaris
Awaken your senses and discover all that the bush has to offer on a walking safari. Accompanied by one of our experienced walking guides, explore the wild for one to two hours. For a full day walking safari, a private walking guide will need to be pre-booked with us. Children under 16 can experience nature walks around the camp led by our child-certified walking guides as part of the Cub Club.

Mokoro
Traditionally, the mokoro was the only form of transport in the Okavango Delta. Sail through the rivers and tributaries with our River Guides in a dugout canoe made from fibreglass, savouring those moments of peace, and encounter an incredible variety of wildlife along the way.

Night Drives
The private concessions allow for game drives after the sun has set. Experience the bush when elusive nocturnal wildlife awakens to hunt, forage and explore the lands under the cover of darkness.

Cultural Visits
Working together with the communities located in the areas surrounding where we operate gives locals an opportunity to be self-sustainable. By sharing knowledge there has been a decrease in the human-wildlife conflict. Take the opportunity to visit the locals and become accustomed to their way of life.

Bird Watching
Khwai is a haven for birds, delight in the calls of the Green heron or the African wood owl; photograph the majestic Ayres’s hawk-eagle and Pel’s fishing owl. Or simply sit back and enjoy their beautiful songs.
