Kunkungan Bay Resort

Kungkungan Bay Resort in Northern Sulawesi introduced the world to the famous Lembeh Strait, arguably the number one dive region for critter and muck diving. As pioneers of muck diving in Lembeh, KBR’s dive operation has muck diving and macro photography down to a science. Lembeh is home to wild and wonderful creatures found on the shallow black sandy slopes, such as seahorses and colorful nudibranchs. There are also the inimicus devilfish, dwarf lionfish, scorpionfish, pufferfish, octopus, pegasus sea moths, frogfish, ribbon eels and flying gunnards. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for all photographers and anyone looking for the unusual and unseen, you’re sure to see something that you have never seen before, no matter how experienced you are.

The exceptional year-round weather conditions provide a variety of diving experiences, from “muck dives” on pure black volcanic sand to vibrant coral reefs and enticing historic wrecks. Whatever your pleasure, Lembeh is always sure to offer fascinating and exciting underwater discoveries.

KBR is located on its own private bay with year-round calm waters. This bay is also home to the only, fully protected and exclusive dive site in North Sulawesi which has been guarded by KBR for the last 20 years. Only KBR guests can dive and snorkel the beautiful house reef.

As Lembeh’s only truly seaside resort, KBR has 17 Luxurious rooms in 4 categories. All our rooms are beachfront (with one exception) and are just steps from the magical waters of the Lembeh Strait. The resort is secluded from the bustle and noise of everyday Indonesian village life. All of the rooms are air- conditioned with ceiling fans. Standard room amenities include in-room telephones, free Wi-Fi, stocked mini-bars, coffee/tea facilities, un-limited bottled water, large bathrooms with walk-in showers and hair-dryers.

KBR’s octagon shaped, over the water main building is traditionally built in North Sulawesi style. It is home to the resort lobby, main dining room and Capt. Billy’s Bar. Here you can literally dine over the coral reef and colorful reef fish of the bay while enjoying the great views of the Strait and the surrounding tropical islands. The dining room is open all day and offers a full menu service with dishes coming from many parts of the world. Capt. Billy’s Bar is a social center for the resort. It is a great place to relax with a “Sundowner” at the end of a great day of diving. Capt. Billy’s also serves great “American Bar Food”.

KBR’s other facilities include the Full Service PADI dive center complete with Camera Room, Equipment Rental, Instruction and, NITROX from the Membrane System. You can enjoy the waterfront infinity pool, which is also home to Tepi Laut Day Spa. There are many tours to choose from including village and market tours, jungle exploration and temple tours.

Once you arrive in Manado’s Sam Ratulangi International Airport, KBR staff will meet you at the airport and escort you to the resort by private air conditioned vehicle. This scenic drive takes approximately 80 minutes.

With some luck you can even encounter Black Macaques – a larger monkey with no tail – , KusKus, Hornbills – the largest birds living in Tangkoko – and lots of other flora and fauna.

Wear long pants and sleeves and a pair of comfortable shoes with socks to avoid any mosquitos or ants. Our staff will bring bottled water, fruit and insect repellent for you. You are going to a rainforest after all!
