The warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean are on your doorstep, which means snorkeling, kayaking, boat trips and diving excursions are easy to arrange – although you may find lazy days relaxing in the private swimming pool and soaking up the tranquil surroundings equally appealing. A team of staff – including a private chef and butler – is dedicated to looking after your every need, so you have the freedom to relax completely.

Built using traditional materials and complemented by handcrafted furniture and locally woven Zanzibari fabrics, Matemwe Beach House reflects the rich and varied history of the island. The house sleeps six people in two double bedrooms on the ground floor and has a mezzanine bedroom with two single beds, all with mosquito nets. All bedrooms are air conditioned. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with shower and the second bathroom contains a bath and shower. You have a private plunge pool, butler service, personal bar, laundry service and WiFi.

A hammock and large sofa take prime position on the wooden deck outside, a shady spot in which to while away an afternoon or enjoy evening sundown cocktails overlooking the ocean. The private pool completes the outside space and shares the same impressive views of the shimmering Indian Ocean.

Choose your meals from the fishermen’s daily catch and watch as your personal chef cooks up a fusion of traditional Zanzibari and international flavors. A personal butler is also on hand throughout the day and will assist with activity bookings and spa treatments.

The Beach House at Matemwe is a three bedroom house offering extraordinary views – just metres from beach. The house features a pool and loungers with complete privacy for sunbathing and a cooling dip. There are also some private loungers on the beach in front of the house. The master bedroom on the ground floor offers a king-sized bed with a framed mosquito net and en suite bathroom with shower. The second bedroom, also on the ground floor, offers a king-sized bed and shares a bathroom with guests staying in the Mezzanine. Shampoo, soap, conditioner, shower and body lotion, slippers and bathrobes are provided for all guests. Also at the Beach House is an upstairs room with 2 further single beds suitable for children. This floor shares the second bathroom. All beds have a mosquito net to cover them entirely. The dining room/common areas are open-planned, with doors leading out to a decked verandah and pool.
