Situated within 40 km (25 miles) of the Victoria Falls, the reserve’s unique location means that guests also have convenient and easy access to the magnificent sights and variety of adrenalin adventures available at the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Nestled on an exclusive stretch of the Zambezi River, Matetsi Victoria Falls celebrates the region’s fascinating heritage with authentic features and effortlessly combines them with light and airy contemporary interiors. Designed to make the most of the reserve’s spectacular views, the lodge’s two camps, of just nine suites each, are complimented by tranquil guest areas.
At Matetsi Victoria Falls life slows down to the majestic pace of the broad Zambezi River, whose waters run deep alongside two intimate camps, each with just nine river-facing suites and a family suite. Clad in an intricate woven pattern that calls to mind the country’s rich heritage, the cool and spacious suites boast contemporary interiors embellished with natural finishes, and decorated with abstract pieces of art created by a renowned local artist. Set in the deep shade of riverside trees, each camp has a dedicated guest area with sweeping views of the Zambezi.
Mouth-watering flavours are created in an interactive kitchen and served indoors or beneath a canopy of mangosteen and waterberry trees. Al fresco dining takes place next to the quiet murmur of the running waters, punctuated by a choir of frogs and the throaty chuckling of hippos, while fresh, African mornings are accented by the stirring cry of fish eagles. As the sun slips beneath the water, guests gather in the cosy bar area to swap stories of the day’s adventures.
Cool and tranquil, leisure hours are spent in the shared guest area, indulging in a soothing treatment in the massage sala or tasting the wide selection of wines in the extensive wine cellar. The more actively inclined can make their way to a well-equipped fitness centre or enjoy a lap in the 23 metre (76 foot) pool.
Matetsi River Lodge is comprised of two intimate river-facing camps. Each camp includes eight suites and one family suite. River Lodge guests are looked after by a personal butler, and have the option of booking a private safari vehicle.
River Lodge Suites
Each air-conditioned suite is fitted with a sumptuous king-sized bed, circular bathtub, indoor and outdoor rain showers, a private plunge pool and decks that flank inspiring views of the Zambezi.
The spacious River Lodge suites feature luxurious local and repurposed materials and design references to time-tested riverside living and fishing and weaving traditions of the region.
Luxury Family Suite
The River Lodge Family Suites each consist of a master suite with a twin-bedded room for children up to the age of 16. The two rooms are both en suite and connected via an enclosed passageway offering convenient and secure access to loved ones.
River House
The exclusive-use, 4-bedroomed private villa features en suite bathrooms, it’s own kitchen, open-plan indoor and outdoor living and dining areas with wide verandas and a sparking private pool overlooking the Zambezi. River House offers a private safari vehicle and a dedicated team including a personal guide, tracker, chef and butler, ensuring a tailor-made safari experience unlike any other.
Game Drives
Matetsi Private Game Reserve offers the most exclusive game viewing experience in the Victoria Falls area. Here, surrounded by flourishing wilderness, phenomenal highlights include sightings such as massive herds of elephant and buffalo as well as the rare and majestic sable antelope. The reserve is also home to lion, spotted hyena, African wild dog and leopard.
Twice-daily game drives in the privacy of the concession are conducted in custom-fitted, luxury open-air safari vehicles in the early morning and late afternoon, accompanied by a knowledgeable, conservation-minded ranger and a tracker.
Game drives are a seminal safari moment in the bush. Whether you’re heading out at dawn or sunset, prepare to recalibrate your senses to the sounds, sights and spectacles of the bush. It may be that you get up close and personal to a pride of lion as they devour the remnants of their night’s kill or watch in awe as an early morning posse of elephant make their way down to the nearest watering hole amidst a chorus birdsong, grunts and scuffling dust. Chances are you’ll come with us as we track one of Matetsi’s established pack of wild dogs and experience their high-pitched keening as they hit the scent of prey. River Boat Cruises
At Matetsi Victoria Falls, you will have the opportunity to experience an exclusive riverboat cruise and canoeing excursion along our private 15km stretch of the Zambezi River.
Take in the marvels of this spectacular wilderness sanctuary complete with resident hippos, crocodiles and nearly 700 species of fish, not to mention more than xx species of water birds. This is your chance to make the most of some excellent photographic opportunities too, from the vantage point of the water where you will see large herds of elephant, buck, wildebeest (gnu) and buffalo come down to drink.
Interpretative Bush Walks
An interpretive bush walk, led by a professional ranger, is an absolute must for those looking to get even closer to the incredible wilderness of the reserve. This adventure-filled activity allows guests to learn more about the intricacies of the African bush, with the thrilling opportunity to get up-close-and-personal to its inhabitants, from small to large. A walking safari is truly a feast for the senses!
