Dining in Aguila de Osa’s Great Room is a unique experience in itself. The open-air restaurant is the heart of the property, sitting over the Agujitas River with a dramatic ocean view and tropical sights and sounds surrounding you as you dine. The restaurant, with seating for 48, serves as the ideal setting for sharing your day’s adventures with other travelers from around the world, and watching diverse wildlife right from the dinner table.

Aguila de Osa’s signature, gourmet cuisine is created with a unique tropical flair; fresh seafood from our boats, specialty cuts of beef, poultry, pastas, sushi, vegetables, and luscious tropical fruits, all prepared with simplicity and originality. Caño Island Guided Snorkeling Tour
Only 12 nautical miles from Aguila de Osa, Caño Island is a paradise for snorkelers, scuba divers, swimmers, and sunbathers alike! The Island can be seen just minutes after leaving the protected cove of the hotel, and the boat ride takes about 45 minutes.

Caño Island Scuba Diving
For the scuba enthusiasts, the Osa Peninsula offers several excursions to encounter the unseen communities of marine life below the water’s surface. Drake Bay Area Birding Tour
Aguila de Osa is a one-of-a-kind destination for birding enthusiasts, with over 350 species residing in the region. On our two hour birdwatching tours, you’ll have the chance to spot an enormous variety of species in the area right in the areas surrounding the hotel, and your guide will locate some that you may never have seen on your own.

Guided Night Tour
Led by resident naturalist guides, the night tour reveals to you to a dynamic world that awakens only after nightfall! Many rainforest inhabitants are nocturnal, making the rainforest an exciting and magical place to visit after dark. Throughout the tour your guide will explain the nuances of the many ecosystems and point out many insects, frogs, and spiders. Sometimes you’ll even see snakes, owls and other exciting species!

San Josecito Beach – Guided or Self-guided Tour
Enjoy one of the Osa’s most acclaimed beaches, beautiful Playa San Josecito. It’s the ideal place to kick back, work on your tan, or read a book. Or be adventurous and explore the coastal rainforest. Hike to the magnificent Rio Claro for a refreshing dip in this pristine river. At San Josecito, the rainforest comes right to the beach, allowing you to watch the wildlife from right from your beach towel. The wildlife doesn’t stop at the beach though! Love the water? Then don your mask, snorkel and fins (provided by the hotel), slip into the clear waters, and swim with brilliantly colorful tropical fish.

Guided Whale & Dolphin Tours
The warm, crystal clear waters just off the Osa Peninsula are home to a variety of whale and dolphin species and are ideal for seeing these incredible creatures up close. Guests can see humpback, pilot and false killer whales, or spotted, bottlenose and spinner dolphins.

Ocean & River Kayaking Self-guided Tour
Kayak enthusiasts will have a blast at Aguila de Osa Inn! The hotel has 7 lightweight, one-person sit-on-top kayaks, for you to use whenever you wish. Our kayaks are comfortable, stable and very easy to maneuver up the Agujitas River and on the open ocean waters from our docks in front of the hotel.

Guided Horseback Riding Tours
Gallop along deserted beaches, ride through the primary rainforest, through lush hilltops with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, and explore the thundering waterfalls hidden deep in the verdant forest during our half-day horseback riding tours. During the tour, your guide will point out wildlife such as hummingbirds, vultures, hawks, scarlet macaws, sloths, monkeys, colorful orchids, berry trees and heliconias.

Canopy Zipline Tour
Unleash your adventurous spirit as you explore the rainforest with a birds-eye view on our Canopy Tour. Comprised of thirteen elevated platforms, connected in a series by long, thick cables, you’ll traverse across the forest canopy using a safety harness and roller system. The height of each platform varies, rising from more than 30 meters (98 ft.). As well, the distance between each platform varies, since the cables have a range of 190 meters (623 ft.) up to 400 meters (1,312 ft.) in length! This Canopy Tour one of the longest in Costa Rica.

Coastal and Deep-Sea Sportfishing – Full- and Half-day Trips
The challenge and excitement of some of the world’s best big game fishing awaits you at Aguila de Osa Inn. Over 40 International Game Fish Association (I.G.F.A.) records have been set within 80 nautical miles from our hotel, with catches including Sailfish, Black, Blue, and Striped Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Cubera Snapper, Spanish and Sierra Mackerel, Roosterfish and more.

 

 

By plane

Nature Air and Sansa Airlines each offer two flights per day from San José to Drake Bay Airport, which is only a 15-minute taxi and boat ride from Aguila de Osa. You may also choose to fly to Palmar Sur, though you should be advised that there is only one flight per day to this location and it requires a 15-minute taxi ride and more than an hour-long boat ride along the Sierpe River to Aguila de Osa’s private dock.

By car

Driving from San José via the new Caldera highway to Aguila de Osa’s private dock in Sierpe is a 4.5 hour drive, and from Manuel Antonio/Quepos is only 1.5 hours. Cars may be left at our private, 24-hour-guarded property adjacent to the dock. The boat leaves from Aguila’s private dock promptly at 10:30 a.m., and a local boat departs from the Restaurante Las Vegas dock at 3:30 p.m. Please call our office to arrange a reservation on one of these boats.
