Bahamas
There is a very special group of Atlantic spotted dolphin living on the edge of the Bahama Banks around Bimini Island. These dolphins have developed a unique bond with the humans. A voluntary relationship based on play and curiosity has developed over the years, never reinforced with hand- feeding or training. This has given us the chance to learn from the dolphins in their world and on their terms. Spotted Dolphins are fun loving sea mammals that are intelligent, friendly, and playful. Interacting with these wild dolphin is spiritually communicating with a highly intelligent being using body language. Possible they have been trying to interact with humans for centuries, but it has been only in the past few decades that humans have started to look at them as intelligent complex individuals.
So, what is it like to swim with a wild dolphin? In a word - incredible! For many people it is a very personal event, for some it can be a life-changing experience. There is very little doubt when you look into a dolphins eye there is someone intelligent looking back. In the water you can hear the dolphins communicating with whistles and echolocating with clicks and a humming sound you can feel as a tingling sensation. Graceful, fast and highly maneuverable, they are perfectly adapted to their liquid environment. Snorkeling and free diving during wild dolphin encounters you glide along side by side. Mimicking each others moves. A few of them will instigate tactile interaction with humans. They will rub along side of you or touch you with a fin. Some of these enjoy a gentle rub. Most of the dolphin prefers if you swim with your arms down at your sides and not reaching out for them. So they can swim shoulder to shoulder with you. Their eye to eye contact is hypnotic. These wild spotted dolphins come to play with us of their own free will. It is a natural encounter with wild dolphins that are in complete control of the interaction. They can appear or disappear at anytime. Dolphin encounters can last from a few minutes to several hours each.
A live aboard boat is the best way to get the ultimate in wild dolphin experiences. The live aboard experience is where you sleep, eat and swim from the boat, similar to a cruise ship only much smaller and much more personal. The dolphins live in the ocean, so for the best encounter you should live on the ocean in a comfortable and safe boat. Imagine waking up in the morning and going to bed at night with dolphins swimming around the boat. The Dolphin Dream is the only operator who offers night time dolphin encounters. Snorkeling with dolphins at night while they feed under twelve 500 watt lights on the boat.
Join us for a trip of lifetime aboard M/V Dolphin Dream for epic wild dolphin encounters.
Most trips are 7/day-6/night trips, board Saturday afternoon and return Friday morning, unless otherwise stated. Departing and returning from West Palm Beach, Florida.

Nile crocodiles like to bask in the sun along riverbanks in the Okavango Delta. During June and July (Botswana’s winter), the water is a chilly 55-62° F, and underwater visibility is about twenty feet. These huge reptiles spend many hours every day soaking up the heat from the sun’s rays, but the moment a crocodile spots our boat, they dive seeking security in the water.
Cold water makes them lethargic and slow, and their poor underwater vision provides us with a great opportunity to photograph these heavily armored crocodilians with most powerful jaws bite, greater of the Great White shark. Taking advantage of the crocodile’s habits, our days on the delta begin between 9-10 am so we can view basking crocodiles.
The moment the croc seeks refuge under water, we stop our boat approximately 100 yards away. Quickly donning scuba tanks over the 5 to 7mm wetsuits, we enter the water. Our descent is direct; we do not want to remain on the water’s surface, known as the croc’s “kill zone.” The reptile is attracted to subjects on the water’s surface, especially those that are silhouetted against the sun, so it is imperative that we descend quickly and spend as little time on the surface as possible so as not to look like a potential meal.
Travel to Botswana with Amos to photograph nile crocs underwater (yep, you read that right!). In late May the rains fall on the Angola heights and cause a huge surge of cold clean water to flush out the Okavango Delta. In early June we can get a secondary push further cleaning up the Delta. The cold current coupled with the cool ambient air temperature gives us the conditions to enable us to dive with the Nile Croc. Amos has led dives here for the past 8 years including doing a National Geographic production called “Feed the Dragon”

Costa Rica
In 2019, the brilliant photographer, Amos, lead a scouting trip off the coast of the Eastern-Central Pacific where he had a special opportunity to witness the effects of a natural phenomenon called upwelling — the process of upward movement to the ocean surface of nutrient-rich, deeper, colder waters.
What does this mean? It means that the added nutrients attract bait fish like sardines, lantern and anchovies, which in turn attract predators like super-pods of dolphins, whales, turtles, mobula ray, stingrays, and more. The upwelling event he was fortunate enough to be apart of was first discovered by local fisherman who noticed the abundance of wildlife that congregated offshore when the moon is full.
Following their advice on timing, the team went at the time they recommended and the trip was so amazing and productive that he’s decided to run an expedition in February 2021. The expedition will be six days long, and the event takes place 40 miles offshore. While you’re at sea, you will live aboard the dive vessel the Aquila, which is well-equipped for comfort, diving and cruising in open ocean.
The activity will be a mix of free diving and at times, the use of Pony tanks – we use pony tanks in order to be more flexible ready for action versus the standard large scuba tank, and extend our bottom time underwater
In addition to this expedition, if you have time, we recommend spending an extra four days to see the rain forest. Amos has been all over the world, and he can say that this is one of the most extraordinarily beautiful places he’s seen in all his travels.
Snorkel, photography and witness super-pods of dolphin and more!

Dominica
Join us in Dominica for a unique opportunity to try for up-close interactions with sperm whales. This trip offers spaces for 4 clients over 10 water days. The sperm whale is the largest toothed whale and also the world’s largest predator.
SDL Expeditions tries to see these creatures all over the world, time and time again, and Dominica offers the most successful interactions. Keep in mind that encounters are not guaranteed — we go out and try the best we can to swim with them. Despite their size, they are shy creatures and getting close can be challenging.
The deep waters off Dominica are home to nearly 200 resident sperm whales. These whales live in Dominica year round, in the warm, crystal-clear waters. Our trips take a maximum of four clients, offering more intimate experiences with these whales. We consider Dominica the absolute best place in the world to see sperm whales in the water. With only one permit issued at at time, there are no other boats to worry about during this tour, allowing for hassle-free enjoyment. This trip is done on snorkel.
Dominica features deep coastal waters that host resident sperm whales. Come photography, snorkel and marvel at these enormous marine mammals.

Join Big Animals Expedition leader, Amanda Cotton, snorkeling, swimming, free diving and photographing sperm whales! In past experiences, they have observed Dominica’s West Coast hosting approximately five sperm whale families, each with five to nine cetaceans. Females and their calves comprise the majority of these groups, although we occasionally encounter males, who are 45 to 55 feet long; thirty percent larger than the females. Families frequently socialize by playing in the water. Other times, they may remain stationary in a vertical position.
Sometimes the pod swims slowly allowing us to fin with them, while other times their speed picks up. We always follow them at a safe distance until they abruptly stop, waiting for us to catch up.
Itinerary in brief:
Day 1: Leave Puerto Rico (if arrive from USA) and arrive in Dominica, Melville Hall Airport. Taxi to the hotel of your choice.
Day 2 – Day 6: Five full days daily search and swim with sperm whale including all other cetaceans in Dominica’s waters. We will have plenty of water and lunch on board for you. Sea conditions are mostly calm to moderate, with rising wind in the afternoon.

Ecuador & the Galapagos
Trips to Galapagos usually force you to choose between land and sea, but if you join Amos on this unique Big Animals expedition to one of the most significant UNESCO World Heritage Sites on Earth, then you will get to experience the best of both worlds. We make this possible for you through a strong collaborative relationship with the most knowledgeable team on the islands guided by the steady and innovative leadership of the incomparable Fiddi Angermeyer. His family members were some of the first colonizers of the islands, and he has lived on Galapagos his entire life. There is no one more intimately familiar with these islands both topside and underwater than Fiddi, and he will be accompanying us to make sure we have a truly epic voyage on board the Passion for 2 weeks!
This archipelago and its many volcanic islands traversing both sides of the equator are all impacted by three powerful and opposing currents creating the unique and wondrous laboratory of life both on land and underwater that is Galapagos. The islands north of the equator are affected by the warm Panama Current, the islands below it are shaped by the cold Humboldt Current arriving from Antarctica, and the western islands feel the effects of the Western Pacific Current.
Who is Amos? Amos Nachoum is both a master of photographing big animal behavior while guiding the small groups of adventurers who accompany him on his expeditions. He free dives with blue whales off the Eastern Pacific, scuba dives in the Okavango delta with crocodiles and goes face to face with the great white shark. One of only five people ever to swim and photograph polar bears underwater… More people were on the moon (12). Since 1980, he has taken over 5,000 people to explore every significant body of water (and land too) from the North Pole to Antarctica. Joining Amos is a life changing experience!

Day 1: ARRIVAL IN DELHI
Upon arrival at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, you will be welcomed by your &Beyond India host and chauffeured to The Oberoi, New Delhi.
Delhi was established around 900 BC and is today the capital of the largest democracy of the world. A mixture of bustling international metropolis, medieval chaos and regal splendour, the city is crammed to bursting point with tombs, temples, monuments and ruins, all of which exist side by side with modern suburbs and glass and chrome skyscrapers.
In this quintessentially Indian city a surprise lies around every corner. Colonial architecture in New Delhi is combined with ancient Islamic and Mughal ruins, modern suburban developments and even a touch of rural India. It houses two UNESCO World Heritage sites; Humayun’s Tomb and The Qutub Minar.
Located in New Delhi, India’s capital city, The Oberoi New Delhi reflects the city’s spirit in a harmonious blend of tradition and contemporary sophistication. Located close to the city centre near business, commercial and shopping districts, the luxury hotel overlooks Delhi’s prestigious Golf Club on one side and the heritage site of Humayun’s Tomb on the other.
Day 2: DELHI
After breakfast, meet your expedition leader Aditya Panda in the lobby for a quick brief about the day’s events before setting out for a sightseeing tour of Delhi. Start the day with a guided tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Humayun’s Tomb, a complex of buildings built as the Mughal Emperor Humayun’s Tomb, commissioned by Humayun’s wife Hamida Banu Begum in 1562. Followed by the tour you will embark on a drive through New Delhi’s former colonial expanse, stopping by the magnificent President’s Palace, known as the Rashtrapati Bhawan, India Gate, the World War I memorial. The official residence of the President of India stands at the opposite end of the Rajpath from India Gate.
India Gate is a 42m (137ft) high stone arch of triumph stands at the eastern end of the Rajpath. It bears the names of 85,000 Indian Army soldiers who died in the campaigns of WWI, the North West frontier operations of the same time, and the 1919 Afghan fiasco.
Return to your hotel and spend the afternoon at leisure.
Enjoy a cocktail reception and an interaction with a renowned conservationist. The focus of the conversation today will be the challenges and the successes of tiger conservation in India. How science and money from various sections of the society and government helped in the overall conservation of habitat. The protection of landscapes lead to an increased population of wild tigers and many other iconic animals. This will be followed by a delectable dinner at the hotel.
Day 3: AGRA
This morning you will be driven to Agra (an approximately four-hour drive).
The city of Agra flourished under the patronage of the emperors Akbar, Jahangir and Shah Jahan and attracted artisans from Persia and central Asia. Agra is where Emperor Shah Jahan celebrated his immortal love for his Empress in marble, the Taj Mahal. Agra is still famous for handicrafts products such as inlay work on marble, carpets, jewellery, zari and embroidery work.
You will be met on arrival and assisted to check-in at The Oberoi Amarvilas.
The Oberoi Amarvilas is considered one of India’s best hotels is a mere 600m (1968ft) away from the Taj Mahal, every single room in this property looks towards the monument. After settling in, you will embark on a guided tour of the Agra Fort and Taj Mahal to view it at sunset. For many years through the Mughal rule, especially during the period when Agra was the capital of the Empire, Agra Fort was expanded and reworked extensively with marble and pietra dura inlay. Notable buildings within the fort include the Diwan-e-Am and Diwan-e-Khas (halls of public and private audience), Jehangir’s Palace, Khaas Mahal, Sheesh Mahal (mirrored palace) and Musamman Burj. The Taj Mahal is said to be one of the most elegant and harmonious buildings in the world and is the manifestation of the wealth and luxury of Mughal art as seen in its architecture, garden design, painting, and calligraphy.
Day 4: RANTHAMBHORE NATIONAL PARK
Revisit the spectacular Taj Mahal at sunrise and then return to the hotel for breakfast. Afterward drive on to Ranthambhore National Park (approximately five-hour), stopping en route at Abhaneri. The village of Abhaneri has a spectacular 9th-century multi-tiered step-well, known as the Chand Baoli. After lunch at the nearby restaurant, you will continue on your journey to Ranthambhore National Park.
Tucked between the rugged Aravalli and Vindhya hills, the Ranthambhore National Park boasts a magnificent landscape with boulder-strewn highland plateaus, lakes, and rivers, dotted with old forts and abandoned mosques, creating a wonderful atmosphere for both bird and mammal viewing. Ranthambhore National Park is perhaps most famous for being one of the original ‘Project Tiger’ reserves and it still affords some of the best opportunities anywhere in India to see a tiger. At the center of the park lay the ruins of the 10th to 16th century Ranthambhore Fort which dominates the leafy forests from its perch atop a dramatic rocky outcrop. You will be met on arrival and assisted to check-in at Sujan Sherbagh, an award-winning camp inspired by the safari campsites of the 1920s.
Day 5: RANTHAMBHORE NATIONAL PARK
Embark on a scheduled early morning and afternoon safari in an exclusive vehicle. Park drives in Ranthambhore National Park are in open 4×4 vehicles. You will be accompanied by an experienced naturalist who will explain and point out interesting flora and fauna.
The park is one of India’s finest examples of dry deciduous forest interspersed with grassland. It is where the zoogeographical zones of the Orient and the Ethiopian merge and it is possible to see tigers from the orient hunt chinkara (gazelles) and antelope. The entire forest has scattered battlements and remnants of abandoned buildings that tigers are said to frequent.
Ranthambhore National Park was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1955 and became one of the original Project Tiger Reserves from 1973. The mammalian diversity of the park mirrors its significance as a premier conservation site. Apart from its flagship attraction, the forest is also home to the leopard, sloth bear, the jackal, hyena, wolf, and caracal among the carnivores, besides a wide variety of ungulates, the most prominent of which are the nilgai, India’s largest antelope, and the majestic sambar, a forest deer. Ornithologists will appreciate the reserve’s woods and lakes that are home to over 250 bird species making it an important bird sanctuary in its own right. Easily the most visible of these is the plucky rufous treepie, which is famous for its catwalks on top of safari vehicles and vans. Other fascinating water-birds such as the painted stork and the purple heron can be seen in large numbers along the park’s many lakes and water-bodies. The crested serpent eagle and the fishing eagle are among the raptors at the top of the avian hierarchy.
Days 6-7: RANTHAMBHORE NATIONAL PARK / JAIPUR
Enjoy an early morning safari seeking out wildlife. Marvel at the copper coat of the Bengal tiger, as it seeks refuge from the harsh sun and cools off in nearby rivers, inhabited by stealthy, snub-nosed marsh crocodiles. Listen to the sounds of the Indian jungle as the elegant spotted chital deer alerts its kin to the presence of any predator, the wide-eyed sambar deer graze the grasslands and colonies of langur chatter in the treetops. The enigmatic jungle, with its many moods, is sure to mesmerise and delight. Hop in the vehicle of a thrilling half-day safari in the afternoon that begins at around 12h30 and ends at sunset…The next day, experience a scheduled morning safari drive in an exclusive vehicle.
Return to your hotel for breakfast and spend the remainder of the morning at leisure. After an early lunch, you will be met and driven to Jaipur (approximately 3½-hour drive). You will meet on arrival at Raipur Airport and be driven to Singinawa Jungle Lodge on the edge of Kanha National Park with charming styled cottages set in a forest area (approximately a four-hour drive).
Kanha National Park has an ideal habitat for tigers and their prey species. Prime tiger wilderness, it was one of the first areas to be protected under Project Tiger and is one of the largest conservation areas today. Lush sal and bamboo forests are interspersed with vast grassy meadows while the Banjaar River forms the south-western border of the park and provides a steady water source for the abundant wildlife.
Days 9-11: KANHA NATIONAL PARK / KOLKATA
Explore the dense jungles of Kanha National Park on early morning and afternoon park drives in an open 4×4 safari vehicle. A specially trained naturalist will accompany you throughout, pointing out and explaining details about the jungle. Step into the famous Jungle Book as you look out for large herds of spotted deer and swamp deer that are preyed on by packs of dhole (Asiatic wild dogs) and tigers. A series of large meadows are interconnected by an excellent network of forest tracks and dirt roads. Nocturnal animals like fox, hyena, jungle cat, civets, ratel, or honey badger and hares can be seen outside the park confines. Gliding in the water, turtles, and amphibians drift and float. Cast your eye to the tops of shady trees and glimpse kaleidoscopic fluttering as hundreds of bird species paint the sky with magnificent splashes of color. On one of the evenings, you will be joined by renowned tiger scientist, Dr. Raghu Chundawat who will share his experiences from many years of field research and a lifetime of knowledge on Indian wildlife and its conservation.
The next day, you will hop in the game vehicle for a short early morning safari in shared vehicles. After an early lunch you will be driven for four-hour to Raipur Airport to connect for your flight to Kolkata. After lunch, continue for another two hours to Diphlu River Lodge in Kaziranga National Park.
Diphlu River Lodge has a boundary river that separates its extensive grounds from the national park itself, and the jungle views are exceptional. The lodge makes full use of local materials and artifacts that blend in with the stunning natural surroundings. Home to some of India’s largest mammals, Kaziranga National Park boasts a thriving population of one-horned rhino, Asian elephant, and Asiatic wild buffalo, as well as the swamp deer known as barasingha, wild boar, sloth bear, and tigers. Everything appears larger than life here. Some of the largest snakes in the world, including the reticulated and Indian pythons, king cobra, and banded krait, slither through the vegetation. The reserve is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, with almost 500 species encountered, including many migrants.
Day 13: KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK
Embark on a scheduled early morning and afternoon safaris in shared vehicles. A park drive inside Kaziranga National Park is very different from other parks in India. Large parts of the park are made up of tall grasslands with patches of swampy water bodies covered with beautiful water lilies. One-horned rhinos and herds of Asian elephants are seen busily grazing. Swamp deer or barasingha are often seen wading through the water bodies chomping on weeds, and during the rut hanging weeds on their large antlers to impress the females.
Incredible for birdwatching, a variety of water birds are found around the waterbodies as well as an impressive number of birds of prey in the forested areas. Carry your binoculars and look out for the endangered hoolock gibbons and the swamp francolin. In between the safaris you’ll have the opportunity to visit the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) located close to the national park.
CWRC is a facility where orphaned or injured wild animals of several species are treated and subsequently returned to the wild. The centre is run by Wildlife Trust of India and the International Fund for Animal Welfare. The centre attends to a wide range of wildlife emergencies resulting from natural or anthropogenic causes. Observe how the handlers tend to the orphaned animals and learn about the various challenges that are faced in these areas and how the animals are rescued and rehabilitated.
You will be guided through the centre getting to see the animals and thereafter attend a talk explaining the kind of work they do.
Day 14: KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK
Early this morning you have the option to go on another exciting safari inside the national park. Return to the lodge and we will drive (approximately 1-hour drive from Lodge) to Silghat for a river cruise (in lieu of the afternoon safari) on the Brahmaputra River.
Home to many magnificent freshwater residents, the Brahmaputra River is one of the key waterways in Asia, spanning 3 848km (2 391mi.) in length. The river drains the Tibetan plateau and then flows through India and Bangladesh. Along its journey it is fed by many smaller rivers and streams. Lunch, tea, coffee and snacks will be served on-board and the cruise will last about five hours. Look out for the sleek Gangetic dolphins.
Days 15-16: DELHI

The Trip:
This expedition adventure to Timor Leste is focused on a particular spot — the Strait of Ombai, which is located in East Timor between Dili (the capital) and the island of Atauro. The Strait is some 17mi (30km) wide and right in the path of the famous Indonesian throughflow current as it streams between the main islands of Alor and Wetar, carrying a rich cargo of nutrients from the deep basins of the Banda Sea to the north. This is essentially an ocean superhighway were 170 million cubic feet (5 million cubic meters ) of sea water per second pass between the Pacific Ocean to the Indian Ocean. With so much water, current and nutrients moving through this area, it is a magnet for many pelagic and cetacean animal species.
The waters between Dili and Atauro are clear year round due to the absence of large rivers on the island — which means no sediment runoff into the ocean during the rainy season that runs from December to April. The deep channel between the mainland and Atauro is also home to one of the largest seasonal migrations of whales anywhere on Earth.
The diversity of these whales is similar to the reefs, with large populations of blue whales, beaked whales, melon headed whales, short finned pilot whales, and multiple dolphin species migrating between the Indian and Pacific Oceans each year between October and December.

Day 1: Maumere
After boarding Adelaar and your welcome drink you will have time to settle in, get to know the boat, crew and fellow passengers, relax and enjoy your first day of living aboard Adelaar.
Day 2: North Flores
The sloping reefs, walls and underwater crevasses of the islands to the north of Flores provide ideal conditions for a first day of diving. Typically, clear water, hardly any current and colourful reefs set the tone for the rest of the trip. (3 day dives, 1 night dive)
Day 3: Lembata
After a morning spent hunting for macro treasures like rhinopias, different species of ghostpipe fish or mimic octopus that inhabit the clean patch reefs and sea grass beds of Lewoleba bay, we spend the afternoon exploring the magnificent walls and overhangs of Bacatan. (3 day dives, 1 night dive)
Day 4: Pura
The Straight of Pantar with the island Pura nested in between Alor and Pantar is a fascinating diver’s playground. We discover a unique site that is covered to large parts in sheer endless carpets of anemones, and which regularly attracts pelagic visitors. The next highlight is a steep slope that is virtually exploding in colours of pristine soft coral growth. After lunch we visit a site that consists of a mini wall and a patch reef, where we may stumble again over some rhinopias. Before the night dive, local kids will show us around their village. (3 day dives, 1 night dive)
Day 5: Komba
Komba is a unique place. This island is actually the tip of Batu Tara, a volcano rising from the depth, piercing the blue waters of the Flores Sea. Diving the stark underwater landscape on the flanks of this occasionally still visibly and audibly active volcano is unique. The dark grey substrate gives a beautiful contrast to the colours of the hard and soft coral formations and big barrel sponges towering on top of the underwater ridges. Its remote location, alone in the middle of the sea, typically guarantees excellent visibility and may attract pelagic predators. After the dives Adelaar sets her sails to head toward the Banda Sea in style. (2 day dives)
Day 6: Kaledupa
Our first day in what Cousteau called a ‘Diving Nirvana’! We’ll start with an iconic Wakatobi site on the North East of Karang Kaledupa, a seemingly endless maze of submerged seamounts all interconnected by ridges, shallow enough to be completely covered in pristine corals. In the afternoon we do some gentle drift diving on the entrance of one of the typical Wakatobi atolls – usually very rich in fish life and there is also a chance to spot the odd eagle ray or shark in the clear blue water. In the late afternoon we head over to the world renowned Wakatobi resort for some coffee and their famous home made gelato. (3 day dives)
Day 7: Tomia
The island Tomia, the ‘To’ part of WakaTObi, is the heart of the national park, and its reefs form the epicentre in terms of Wakatobi’s celebrated marine biodiversity. Today’s dives take us on exposed seamounts surrounded by myriads of fish, great hard coral ridges that are studded with sea fans that are home to different species of pygmy seahorses and gorgeous shallow coral gardens. The night dive takes place on a site that is haven to critters such as frog fish, cephalopods and rare crustaceans. (3 day dives, 1 night dive)
Day 8: Runduma
The islands and atolls around Runduma are in the far North of Wakatobi national park. Their remoteness adds to their appeal, as do the schools of fish living on those rarely visited reefs. The sites vary between large seamounts with patrols of giant barracudas, over fringing sloping reefs with giant groupers ad schools of different species of snappers and mazes of completely submerged reef systems that are frequented by eagle rays and pelagic species. (3 day dives)
Day 9: Pasarwajo
The big bay of Pasarwajo in the South East of Buton island is a gem in the treasure that is Indonesian muck or macro diving. Its gentle rubble slopes and sea grass meadows of beaches and sites underneath pillars of old piers give shelter to weird and wonderful critters such as zebra crabs, harlequin shrimps, thorny seahorses, flying gurnards, wonderpus and other cephalopods, amongst others the very rare mototi octopus. At dusk there is an opportunity to observe the mating ritual of bigger than average mandarin fish that are more photographer-friendly than in other places. (3 day dives, 1 dusk dive)
Day 10: Buton
A couple of hours south of Pasarwajo, beneath the impressive cliffs of South east Buton, lie the two final dive sites of the trip. Before falling steeply deep in the clear abyss, the underwater landscape spoils us with large overhang and terraces. Due to its ocean facing positions surprise encounters with migrating bigger denizens of the deep are always possible here. After the last dive we sail around the southern tip of Buton to our final destination, the harbour town of Bau Bau. There we have a festive goodbye dinner. (2 day dives)
Day 11: Bau Bau
After a last delicious breakfast, it is time to say goodbye and disembark – until the next time.

Wakatobi archipelago lies to the southeast of Sulawesi. Flat islands, palm trees and white beaches make the surface a paradise on earth. Yet, it is the underwater world that the diver and explorer J.Y. Cousteau found fascinating. So amazed by the diversity of Wakatobi's reefs, he refers to it in his travelogue as "the finest diving in the world". This itinerary is also beginner-friendly when it comes to diving!
Mexico
There is a legendary lagoon on the Pacific coast of Baja Mexico that is spoken of in hushed whispers, where gray whales finish an 11,000 mile migration from the Bering Sea and Alaska to mate and calve each year. The gray whales here are uniquely curious and interactive, allowing for close-up, intimate encounters with these gentle giants and their newborn calves.
This is San Ignacio Lagoon, one of only 4 mating and birthing lagoons in the world, with the highest concentration of sociable whales, and the only lagoon still untouched by human development. With round-trip private charter flights from Cabo San Lucas, it has never been easier to arrive at the lagoon. With three nights and four days of fully catered camp and up to nine gray whale encounter trips (90 mins each).
Enjoy this wonderful experience that will give you lifetime memories! Your adventure starts with an 8 am 2 hour charter flight from Cabo San Lucas to the Lagoon. Three times a year, we offer a trip that covers all of Baja California. Choose your adventure beginning in Puerto Peñasco and ending in San Jose del Cabo or vise versa.
Experience what very few people have. A journey where there are no roads, very few people and almost no boats. The stars at night are so close that you can reach out and are surprised that you cannot touch them. At night you hear something splashing. It could be anything. Dolphins, marlin, a schools of bonitos? Then you hear the huge sound of blowing and water spouting. It's a whale! You can't see him but he sounds big. At a distance you hear the sea lions and pelicans. What a splendid way to end a magnificent day.
During the day we move from one island to the next , diving 3 to 4 times daily. If you wish to hike the remote islands during surface intervals, there is always a dingy available to take you to shore.
Exploring one island to the next is a magical experience. One that will linger in your memory for years and years to come. The Sea of Cortez remains a secret oasis where the desert meets the sea.
ACTIVITIES: Diving, hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, and explore small towns and missions.
THINGS TO SEE: Jacques Cousteau and John Stienbeck saw the magic that the Sea of Cortez has to offer. Jacques Cousteau called the Sea of Cortez the worlds aquarium. John Stienbeck wrote "The Log of the Sea of Cortez" a journey through a remote and beautiful corner of the world, a diary filled with the daily excitements and triumphs of skillful and energetic men. It is also an invitation to see the world anew from a fresh vantage point and perhaps with a broader and more understanding spirit.
The bio-diversity between the Northern and Southern Sea of Cortez is incredible. Diving the entire Baja is spectacular. The sea life we witness on the surface from the boat, dingys or snorkeling is fantastic.
Dolphins, sea lions, pilot whales, humpback whale, blue fin whales, orca and sperm whales. Flying mantas, blue and brown footed boobie birds, cormorants, frigate birds and the endemic yellow footed gulls.
Although the conditions in the Sea of Cortez are mostly calm, there are times that the sea is rough. Please be prepared for this type of situation. There are several over the counter remedies that can help you in case we are faced with rough seas during your trip. COME ON THIS TRIP AS A CURIOUS DIVER AND LEAVE AN EXPLORER!

The Trip:
The annual Mobula ray migration along the stunning coast of Baja—an event so breathtaking it is featured in numerous documentaries. There is simply nothing else like it. This gathering of literally thousands of rays is one of the largest in the world, and among the most exciting natural phenomena on our planet. And we will be there, free diving in the middle of it.
You don’t want to miss this experience. We will be swimming in the beautiful, clear blue water, only to be pulled closer into a swarm of thousands of these beautiful rays (about 3 – 4 feet wide from wing tip to wing tip) as they float through the ocean current, swim in endless circles, and show off acrobatics as they jump in and out of the water.
We will use a microlight two the three times during the week to search for shoals of Mobula rays as they aggregate along the Sea of Cortez coastlines of the Baja California peninsula, along with all other pelagic, sharks, whales, orca, and other incredible ocean creatures.
And while it’s easy to compare the volume and energy of the oceanic wildlife to the Sardine runs in South Africa and Mexico, what makes this experience different and so desired it is that it’s a much more gentle, soft adventure—while just as dynamic at the same time.
And after our days of adventure at sea, we anchor down at night in Baja’s secluded bays.
The Mango Wind is an award-winning, luxurious, 45-foot catamaran designed by Robertson and Caine, one of the world’s leading charter boat builders. We also offering onboard our private chef, photo guide and a naturalist.

Autumn in Baja, Mexico is the time to see the colorful and speedy Striped Marlins hunting. For many years the marlin were not seen much in this area, reaching a peak six years ago when the mackerel stock was almost entirely fished out. Then in 2019 two things happened to bring the marlin back. The mackerel levels recovered and an ocean current called an upwelling brought them back to Baja, along with all other ocean predators that feed on them. The returned in great numbers and we were lucky to have many great days out in the water enjoying their company.

Dive Ninjas has been exploring the waters of Baja California for years and has encountered and interacted with many different shark species, blue whales, humpback whales, orcas, thousands of dolphins and mobula rays. Now, they are are going northwest to Bahía Magdalena (Mag Bay) to look for the über-fast, amazing and elusive striped marlin. The huge amount of sardines and bait fish that congregate off the coast, along with the cold currents, make way for a feeding frenzy that cannot be seen anywhere else.
Puerto San Carlos, the town where the group will be staying, has been a shark-fishing village for many years. Now, with increasing interest in whale watching and open ocean eco-tourism, some families of fishermen are currently focusing on doing these ecotours so that people can interact with sharks and other species in their natural habitat.
We start the day with a light breakfast and then set out early out into the open ocean. We will be looking for the majestic frigate birds that are feeding on sardine and mackerel as the marlin corral them into big bait balls. As soon as we find a bait-ball we will jump right in. It’s good to be a strong swimmer/snorkeler. Out of Mag Bay, we are very likely to find the marlin as well as plenty of other amazing pelagic species around. It is possible to see dolphins, sharks, and sea lions feeding on the same bait balls. Whales and even orcas are often spotted in the area. The place is also a bird-watching paradise, including the most southern population of bald eagles.
The wild coast of Baja is full of life all year round and never ceases to amaze us with the seasonal migrations that take place within these major feeding grounds. Each fall, join the Dive Ninjas in Magdalena Bay for this special 5 day expedition to look for the über-fast, amazing, and elusive striped marlin.

MantaFest - Yap
Join a 4, 7 or 14 night trip to Yap to dive with the Mantas and other marine life while honing your photo skills. Hosted by Manta Ray Bay Hotel, there will be multiple educational and fun photo workshops undersea and on land. There will be a photo contest with many different categories at the end with amazing prizes. On Manta Dives, we dive to a cleaning station and remain stationary at the bottom, and the Mantas come to us.
The Mantas approach, more often than not two or three at a time, and hover at the cleaning station. The Cleaning Wrasse get into the action and nibble away at parasites in the gills and on the skin, getting a free meal while the Manta gets rid of uninvited and irritating guests.
The Mantas will be as close as a few feet from the divers, and the action often goes on for quite some time. The shallow depth and the divers remaining stationary at the cleaning station allows for extended dive times, a typical dive can last 55 to 75 minutes with several Mantas or groups of Mantas being “serviced” at arms length – cleaning station encounters are outstanding for photography. This is an experience that cannot be put in words. This is fun-filled annual event in Yap, not to be missed!

BENGUERRA ISLAND - 4 nights
Day 1: After landing in Mozambique’s Vilanculos International Airport, you will be ushered onto a helicopter for short and breath-taking flight to Benguerra Island. You should arrive just in time for lunch, followed by an orientation of your surrounds.
You will have the rest of your afternoon to spend at your leisure before heading to the lodge library for a briefing of the next few days line-up. This briefing will be hosted by Dr Tessa Hempson, the Oceans Without Borders Program Manager and Principle Scientist. She will explore the importance of coral reef ecosystems, climate and people and their interconnection, together with the conservation role of apex predator tagging, what you can expect from the experience, and how the next few days will unfold.
Day 2: It’s an early start today as you rise before the sun to follow the research boat out to sea as they search for marine predator species such as giant trevally and grey reef sharks. Isac will accompany you and share first-hand insights on the marine research happening within the archipelago. Mother Nature can be unpredictable at best, so we have allowed two days for this experience to unfold; to better your chances of participating in the tagging on the research boat.
In addition , you may well have the opportunity for catch-and-release fishing. (Your adventure will last the morning; you’ll then break for lunch back at the lodge).
Afterwards, you’ll have the opportunity to unwind, freshen up and take some time for reflection before opting to go on a horseback ride on the beach, or perhaps taking a scenic helicopter flight over the marine park, in search of the elusive dugong and whales from the air. This flight would attract an additional cost. Tonight, feast on the beach alongside your hosts and a representative from African Parks who will talk about the fascinating projects such as coral reef conservation and other measures being taken to protect the waters of Mozambique.
Day 3: Make a splash this morning, either on a scuba diving or snorkeling excursion (depending on what you are comfortable with) to a nearby coral reef. Following on the evening discussions, this is your opportunity to view for yourself the beauty and fragility of these marine habitats. After a fun-filled morning, you will head back to the lodge for lunch and the opportunity to freshen up before spending the afternoon on an island drive. You’ll be visiting some current Africa Foundation community projects and witnessing the important role played by these island communities in marine conservation. The opportunity for a spectacular sundowner stop on the “wild side” of the island, amidst pristine sand dunes, will bring your afternoon to the perfect end. Tonight, enjoy a dinner with your hosts and the research team or simply choose to take a little time out to enjoy your meal in privacy.
Day 4: Today, you will have the option of once again heading out with the research team to fish for, and tag, predator species, or you can spend the morning unwinding and enjoying the many lodge activities available to you. We have chartered a perfect, small vessel for an intimate and personal Svalbard experience. We take only 12 people and have 3 large zodiacs which leaves much space for each passenger and their photography gear. We have done this expedition many times and you will find that only after 2 days we have all become like a big family and enjoy each others company during the meals or presentations and enthusiasm when we spot a polar bear.
The boarding of the zodiacs takes only a few minutes so that we don’t miss out on a good polar bear sighting when we need to get closer to shore. Bigger ships don’t have this flexibility. They also don’t have the freedom to change their route or itinerary as we do. We go where the wildlife is and once found we stay as long as we want.
We have chosen this time of the year because there is a great chance for an abundance of pack and fjord ice which means many seals and hopefully polar bears. Our main goal during this expedition is to find polar bears. We will also see walrus, Svalbard reindeer, different seal species and with luck whales and Arctic Fox. Not to forget the giant cliffs with thousands of breeding Arctic birds.
After spending one night in Longyearbyen’s famous and cosy Basecamp Spitsbergen, you can choose to join us either on a dog mushing or snowmobile tour across the pristine white winter landscape. With some luck, we might see Svalbard reindeer or Arctic fox which at this time is still carrying its white winter coat.
The next morning we offer the same options for just half a day. If you prefer you can also take a leisurely walk in the small town of Longyearbyen and try out the coffee shops and restaurants or check out the local shops.
MV Explorer
We've chosen the 12-guest luxury yacht MV Explorer. This refurbished vessel offers the most comfortable and refined small ship cruising experience in the Arctic. Large outside deck spaces and a spacious panoramic lounge give you the best views of the incredible scenery. With only 12 guests on board it will feel like you are on a private expedition!
Experience one of the last true and unspoiled wildernesses on earth where not humans but nature still dominates. See polar bears, walruses, whales, seals, giant bird cliffs and spectacular glaciers! Hone your photography skills and capture some amazing photos under the guidance of expedition leader, Rine van Meurs.

Day 1: Welcome to the Wild Coast
Tucked between lush forest, rolling hills and the ocean, arrive at your accommodation for the next 6 nights, Mbotyi River Lodge, an ideal place to stay during your marine migration expedition. Rustic yet comfortable accommodation provides beautiful views of the ocean, while a spacious restaurant and a well-stocked bar offer great spots to compare impressions of the day’s dives with your fellow deep sea enthusiasts.
Take the evening to settle in, unpack and prepare your gear for the next day’s action. After dinner you will have a dive briefing with your Oceans Without Borders host, and dive masters, who will explain what to expect over the coming days of diving. With years of combined expert knowledge, they not only aim to provide you with the best possible chance of catching up with the migrating shoals, but can also provide rich insight into the significance that this mass movement of fish has to the marine environment.
Days 2-6: Dive the Great Migration
Wake up each morning at around 06h00 and feel the excitement start to build up as you prepare to venture out in search of the greatest shoal on earth. Be ready for long days in and out of the water as you launch between 06h30 and 07h30, depending on the light.
You will spend about five hours each day out on the water with Walter Bernardis, your diving guide with African Water Sports, either moving in search of the shoals or snorkeling with the accompanying whales and dolphins. Keep a look out for dolphins, humpback whales, southern right whales and the extraordinary Bryde’s whale.
Prepare for instant action when the shoals are spotted, as you rapidly kit up and descend to the depth the shoals are traveling at, ready to gaze in awe at millions of glittering sardines, as well as the sharks, gannets and other predatory game fish that follow in their wake.
Stay submerged until the shoal either moves off or is dispersed by the hungry predators that harass and follow in its wake. Attacked from above and below, the sardines are skillfully maneuvered to the surface of the water and separated into compact bait balls, easier to feed upon. Depending on the movements of the sardines, you may take part in multiple dives a day, most of them at a depth of 5-15 meters, or you might spend most of your day on the boat. With a strict limit on the number of divers, there is ample space for you and your gear on board the semi-rigid inflatable, ensuring for a comfortable day out at sea.
After several hours out on the water, return in the afternoon for a hot shower. Enjoy afternoons spent looking at your underwater footage, updating your log book or simply doing nothing at all. If you are up for further activities, you can hike to cascading waterfalls, go micro lighting or explore the beauty of the Wild Coast on a horseback ride. End the day with a hearty dinner and the camaraderie of sharing photos and stories of the day’s action.
Day 7: Oyster Box
Spend a night at the iconic Oyster Box hotel on the way to Phinda Private Game Reserve. The landmark Oyster Box Hotel lies at the edge of the beach, overlooking the Indian Ocean. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon enjoying the hotel’s many first-class facilities, or venture out into town to explore like a local. If you haven’t quite had enough beach-time, Umhlanga has a wonderfully warm ocean to enjoy a surf or a swim. Unwind with a drink at either the Lighthouse Bar or the Chukka Bar. Treat your taste buds to the freshest oysters and the most delicious prawn curry, accompanied by superb local wines, while enjoying an informative discussion with one of our Oceans Without Borders custodians.
Days 8-9: Phinda & Sodwana Bay
After spending five days exploring the colder currents of the South Coast, move up to KwaZulu-Natal to enjoy the balmy waters of Sodwana Bay, along with the attractions of a Big Five safari at Phinda Private Game Reserve.
Set in a rare and beautiful sand forest, the glass walls of Phinda Forest Lodge’s suites offer a sweeping view of one of the most unique ecosystems on the planet. A dense canopy provides privacy and floor to ceiling windows invite the forest in, with the wonderful opportunity to view wildlife roaming outside your glass “bubble”, fluttering birds nesting in the foliage and the gentle rustle of forest sounds.
On the edge of the forest, just before a clearing that overlooks a small waterhole, lies the lodge’s sparkling rim-flow swimming pool, an ideal spot for relaxing. Expansive decks in the spacious guest area, look out onto panoramic views of an open grassy meadow. In the evenings, when warm firelight welcomes you to the traditional African boma, wide-eyed bush babies watch inquisitively from the trees above, as you in indulge in a lantern-lit feast beneath a canvas of stars. Enjoy a captivating afternoon game drive and track a magnificent variety of wildlife, including the Big Five, cheetah and black rhino. The sand forest is home to the shy suni and the rare red duiker, two tiny antelope that are seldom encountered elsewhere.
After a hearty breakfast, head to Sodwana Bay to indulge in an opportunity to compare the balmy waters and abundant coral life of Sodwana Bay, with the massive shoals and fast-paced marine predators of the Sardine Run. This is a gentler kind of diving that allows you to experience unforgettable marine diversity, with over 1 200 species of fish and decorative coral formations.
Days 9-11: Phinda’s Big Five and more
In the morning, enjoy another extraordinary game drive across Phinda’s seven distinct habitats, looking for some of the rarer species such black rhino or pangolin, or some of the 436 bird species on the reserve. A magnificent tapestry of woodland, grassland, wetland, and forest, interspersed with mountain ranges, rivers, marshes and pans, the reserve is home to 1 000 hectares (2 471 acres) of Africa’s remaining rare dry sand forest.
There a variety of activities for you to enjoy on the reserve between game drives today, including a nature walk where you can experience a deeper connection with the African bush.
Later on this afternoon, get back in the game vehicle for your final captivating safari. Stay out late in the afternoon (continuing after nightfall), with expert rangers and trackers and enter the world of Africa’s nocturnal predators on a thrilling night drive. The next morning you will wave a fond farewell as your unforgettable journey with us comes to an end.

Nadia travels around the world, writing stories and shooting video and still images for scuba divers and ocean enthusiasts. She leads over 20 expeditions a year, sharing some of her best experiences with those who are keen. Nadia is also an accomplished underwater photographer.
The Sardine Run is an amazing experience — there is nothing quite like it. Most of the Sardine Run is done on snorkel; only when we find a static bait ball do we get in the water with scuba. Seeing an iconic sardine bait ball in crystal-clear conditions with dolphins, sharks, whales and sea birds in a feeding frenzy is, in fact, quite rare. Film crews spend weeks out at sea over the course of a few years in search of the perfect bait ball to get the footage regularly seen on television. Joining our experienced team ensures that you have the best chance of experiencing this remarkable phenomenon.
The base for these exciting days is the N’taba River Lodge and Spa, located in Port St. Johns. We find this to be the best accommodation in the area with a lovely swimming pool and restaurant.
Join our tour organizer Nadia Aly and experience the exhilarating Sardine Run on the Wild Coast of South Africa, interacting with dolphins, whales, seals, penguins, sharks and birds chasing the Biggest Shoal on earth. We provide a unique Sardine Run experience by focusing on small groups of only 5 clients per boat, working with very experienced skippers and guides, and providing best accommodation in Port St. Johns; all in an effort to create the very best Sardine Run tour we can.

Drive to Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge and tuck into a delectable lunch.

This makes for an exceptional game viewing experience, with the feeling of the ultimate exclusivity.

Tonga
Humpbacks of Tonga
Whale season in Vava’u is mid-July through October. Some days are sunny; some days are cloudy. The weather is warm, but you’ll want to bring a wind jacket to keep you comfortable on the boat. Water temperature is around 77 F (25 C).
Only snorkeling is allowed with the whales as they don’t like divers’ bubbles, and it’s hard to keep up with whales on SCUBA. The topography of the islands allows us to work in most conditions, excluding intense weather days of course.
We will go out and swim with the whales in most conditions; the weather and seas don’t seem to affect the whales at all. We search for the whales in calm, sheltered bays, open sea — pretty much wherever the day takes us!
Tongan waters are birthing and mating grounds for a specific population of humpback whales, which means they are around for months each year. Even better, the islands that surround Vava’u provide protection from the winds, ensuring that we can go out on the water almost every day. These are snorkel trips, as it’s near-impossible to scuba dive with whales since they move quite quickly. Clients should have snorkeling experience and understand that there is a lot of swimming involved on these tours.
We generally get in the water with whales almost everyday, it really comes down to the quality of those swims. We aim to get 1-2 quality swims on a 5 swim day trip, and 3-4 quality swims on a 8 swim day trip. A high quality encounter to us is one that lasts over 10 minutes and is in close proximity to a set of whales.
Vava’u, in our opinion, is the best place in the world for in-water encounters with humpback whales.
