Kanga Camp

Angama Amboseli is an intimate lodge in the heart of the 5,700-acre private Kimana Sanctuary and the shadows of Mount Kilimanjaro. Set within a forest of towering Fever Trees where some of Africa's last Super Tuskers roam — elephants with tusks so large they sweep along the ground as they walk — Angama Amboseli is a gentle start or finish to any East African Safari.

With just 10 Guest Suites (including two sets of family, or interconnected, suites), it's an intimate lodge with all of Angama's signatures: incredible views, contemporary African design, intuitive guiding and warm Kenyan hospitality.

The Guest Area offers flexible indoor-outdoor dining with a baraza to wind down the days by the fire, telling stories with a drink in hand or marshmallows for roasting. The nearby Studios house a Safari Shop, Games Room, Art Gallery, Weaving Studio and the Photographic Studio, perfect for capturing Amboseli’s iconic scenes. The raised rim-flow Swimming Pool features a drinking trough just below, made especially for resident herds.

Guest Suites

(10 ROOMS)

The Guest Suites — including two sets of family, or interconnected, suites welcoming children of all ages — feature a super king, extra length bed, a personalized drinks armoire and a dressing area connecting to a bathroom which includes a double vanity and a double shower. To maximize the views of Kili, each suite has floor-to-ceiling screened doors leading to a private deck with a shaded lounge area, an outdoor shower and Angama's signature rocking chairs.

Game Drives

Angama Amboseli offers guests exclusive traversing rights and unrestricted game viewing. Thanks to its perennial stream, Kimana Sanctuary boasts the greatest habitat diversity and wildlife density in the area attracting scores of eland, reedbuck, warthogs in their hundreds, along with giraffe, zebra and wildebeest. Encounter the last genetic links to Africa’s Super Tusker elephants who enter the park along a centuries-old migratory path and amble through the Fever Tree Forests. Even the elusive leopard, cheetah and serval can be seen here along with many species of bird. Angama Amboseli offers guests exclusive traversing rights and unrestricted game viewing.

Kimana Walking Safari

Led by your expert Guide and an Askari (a member of the security team), who have incredible knowledge of the terrain, flora and fauna of this little oasis, on foot is an enchanting way to experience a safari. Follow animal pathways and tracks, get close to the resident eland, zebra and giraffe and observe the smaller inhabitants like antlions and dung beetles up close. It can be an easy walk, ideal for families, or you can explore for longer if that suits your mood.

Hot-air Balloon Safari

Admire Mount Kilimanjaro at eye-level and the Amboseli ecosytem from above on a hot-air balloon safari. From up here, you can see wildlife traversing the plains below and gain a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between Amboseli National Park and its surrounding communities.

Visit Amboseli National Park

Derived from the Maasai word for 'salty dust', Amboseli National Park is just a 45-minute drive. Guests can enjoy a half- or full-day excursion with a picnic lunch. This is one of the best places in Africa to see huge herds of elephants marching single file across the iconic dusty salt pans or having a bath in the dry lake bed. In the savanna and woodlands, you may spot lion or cheetah, while in the wetlands, hippo, flamingo and some of its other 400-odd species of birdlife can be found.

Relaxation

In addition to your safari adventures through Kimana Sanctuary and Amboseli National Park, be sure to slow down and catch your breath in your rocking chair as you watch Kili play hide-and-seek through the clouds, with a massage on your Suite’s patio or floating in the Swimming Pool, taking refuge from the midday heat.

Photography

Angama Amboseli’s Photographic Studio is a hub for creativity, storytelling, education and collaboration. Offering services from photoshoots to camera rentals and tutorials to enhance your photography skills, it provides the finest means to capture lasting memories of your safari adventure. The Studio offers a selection of new DSLR and mirrorless cameras and lenses available for rent.

Conservation Experiences with Big Life Foundation

Managing Kimana Sanctuary since 2018, Big Life Foundation, is a non-profit organisation working across 1.6 million acres of land in the Greater Amboseli Ecosystem and directly with communities so that conservation benefits all. Employing hundreds of local rangers in land management and anti-poaching units, they also focus on human-wildlife coexistence, critical habitat protection and education and healthcare initiatives within the communities. Guests will have the opportunity to visit Big Life HQ and see conservation in action.

A full-day experience includes demonstrations from ranger patrols and/or tracker dogs, a visit to Big Life's headquarters hosted by a senior staff member with a packed lunch. The afternoon is spent learning about the wildlife corridor, the use of fences and a training school visit (US$1,000 donation)
