Bilimungwe Bushcamp is a cozy camp offering an true safari experience in the knowledgeable hands of an award-winning guide.The heart of camp is the rustic lounge area set beneath a huge winterthorn tree and looking out over a shady waterhole favored by local warthogs, elephant and other thirsty game.
When it comes to wildlife-watching at Bilimungwe, it’s hard to know where to look first – choose from the tangle of mahogany trees surrounding camp, the nearby plain where leopard prowl, the popular waterhole, or the open waters of the Luangwa River. This is a nature-lover’s paradise, and with Manda Chisanga, Bilimungwe’s award-winning resident guide, to lead you, you could not be in better hands.
The lounge and dining area is built on stilts around a large old termite mound under an ancient mahogany tree which provides ample shade from the hot sunshine. Bilimungwe has a secret breakfast spot on the edge of Luangwa Valley which is perfect to watch the sun rise over the Chindeni hills. Bilimungwe sleeps up to eight guests in 4 tents and is open from May to December.
Raised Thatched Rooms
Bilimungwe’s four raised thatched rooms have been carefully designed to ensure the height of comfort while still retaining that authentic bush camp feel. Each tents has magnificent views of one or two of the three watering holes. The tangle of mature mahogany trees that surround camp are echoed in the rich, wood interiors and the beautiful wooden furniture which are handmade by local artisans. Bright African textiles bring splashes of color to the elegant rooms. After an early morning game drive, head back to your room for a refreshing, open-air waterfall shower, or continue the wildlife spectacle from your private deck. Two of the chalets have twin beds (queen-sized beds) and two have doubles (king-sized bed).
New! Director's House - Private Villa
The Director's House private villa has two ensuite bedrooms and sleeps a maximum of 6. Outside, there is a swimming pool, veranda, outdoor braai area and our famous pizza oven! All meals are taken privately at the house (with a private chef) and the rate includes a private guide and vehicle. The Director's House is open year round.
Walking Safaris
Take advantage of the exceptional knowledge and charm of resident guide Manda Chisanga, and head out with him on a walking safari. In between walking, find a chair and enjoy the wildlife magnets that are Bilimungwe’s three permanent waterholes.
