Espiritu Santo Island Eco Camp

Stunning beaches and the beautiful Sea of Cortez meet on the shore of Espiritu Santo, which is delightfully pristine and off-the-grid despite being only 18 miles north of La Paz. Tim Means, the founder of Baja Expeditions, saved this island from commercial exploitation by raising the funds to buy the island from the developers and arranging for its donation to the people of Mexico as a national park. There are no permanent residents on the island and we hold one of the few limited minimum-impact base camp permits. (Oct-Apr)

With full mothership support, we offer all sorts of awesome adventures from our unique week-long “swim treks” complete with swimming coaches to dive trips based right in the heart of the best La Paz area diving, to base camp for kayaking adventures, to simply relaxing on the beach with a good book and supply of cold drinks from our hostesses. You will be able to enjoy delicious meals and excellence in guest service.

Our tents are roomy and comfortable with real beds. They are windproof, insulated, and heated for maximum comfort, with shared bathrooms and showers, hot and cold running water with good pressure, and limited power.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Fly in to either La Paz with included airport pickup or Los Cabos SJD with included transfer from SeeCreatures San Jose. Arrive at our base at the quiet beachfront Marea Hotel. Relax. Warmup dive. Included dinner and overnight hotel stay.

Day 2: Breakfast at the Baja Expeditions Hacienda and then head off to Isla Espiritu Santo and your beachfront camp. We will start swimming this afternoon. Rest. Relax. Cocktails and cold beer. Sunset. Dinner.

Days 3 – 6: Breakfast. swimming every day with as much or as little as you like. Lunch. Dinner. Take advantage of our kayaks and paddle boards. Guided hike into the desert. More sunsets. More cocktails. More relaxing!! Side trips to places like Los Isolates to swim, snorkel and free dive with the colony of very friendly sea lions.

Day 7: Breakfast and then sadly, it will be time to transfer back to La Paz. But wait, there is more! If your time allows, join us for an extra couple of dives of activities. Perhaps an introduction to scuba diving. Or for certified scuba divers, this is peak season diving in the Sea of Cortez.
