Murex Bangka Resort

The hotel “Capitán Suizo” owes its name on the one hand to the small island “El Capitán” which lies in front of the hotel and on the other hand to the fact that the family owning the hotel is from Switzerland “Suizo”.

In 1992 the owners of Capitán Suizo, Ursula and Ruedi Schmid, left Switzerland and moved to Costa Rica with their two children in search of new challenges and new adventures. They fell in love with an untouched piece of land full of tropical vegetation and beautiful old trees, directly on the beach of a sleepy little fishermen’s town. After three years of “hand made” construction the dream of a small jewel, in touch with nature and in harmony with the country and its people’s philosophy was born.

Capitán Suizo is an environmentally conscious Boutique Beachfront Hotel where it is implicit that nature and animals are integrated with love and respect. The hotel is set beneath native trees and nestled between rich, organically maintained gardens which home a wide variety of wildlife. In each and every corner of Capitán Suizo one can observe the magnificent beauty of Costa Rica’s nature. Birds, howler monkeys, squirrels, gray and green iguanas, geckos, armadillos, skunks, collared anteaters and raccoons are some of the animals that can be seen almost daily throughout the hotel’s garden. Biologically natural paths and corridors have been kept connected with the outside forest areas to provide wildlife the possibility to continue to travel around in a safe way in order to find habitat and food inside as well as outside the gardens.

With a 5 leaves level award in the Certification of Sustainable Tourism (CST) Capitán Suizo reflects its environmental, social, cultural and economic commitment throughout its operation.

More than 95% of the 70 staff members are Costa Rican and most of them are from the region of Guanacaste. They work with joy and pride to make sure guests have a wonderful experience at Capitán Suizo.

Nestled between lush, tropical gardens, our 35 inviting rooms await you. The six bungalows, six ocean front units, 22 superior rooms and four-bedroom suite, are spacious, furnished with local materials and decorated with regional craftsmanship and antique photographs from Costa Rica. All of them overlook exuberant tropical gardens, face towards the ocean and feature a balcony or terrace. Each room has a king size bed with a tailor-made mosquito net for those who prefer it. Rooms have a comfortable sitting area with a queen size sofa bed (except the 2 Beachfront Garden Rooms) and sliding doors to let the refreshing ocean breeze in.

They all have air conditioning, ceiling fans and wireless Internet access. They are equipped with a small refrigerator, coffee and tea facilities, direct dial telephone, safe deposit box (included in the price), AM/FM radio and a large closet. All the spacious bathrooms have a shower, an extra 220 volts wall-socket for European appliances and hair dryer.

All the rooms, except the 2 Beachfront Garden Rooms have been designed and equipped for a maximum of 3 people.

SUPERIOR ROOMS
Superior Rooms are equipped with a balcony (second floor) or a terrace (first floor) and a spacious bathroom. The 11 rooms on the superior floors were originally built on a high level to keep them fresh through natural air circulation. This environmentally friendly “Ocean Breeze” option can still be offered in some units if someone wishes it this way.

BUNGALOWS
The 6 bungalows are individually set amongst the nature. Every unit has a large private terrace with a hammock. The spacious bathrooms have a double whirlpool and an outside shower with hot water. Originally these units were designed to keep the inside cool through natural air circulation. If someone would like to enjoy the balmy evenings and wake up in the morning to the singing of the birds, the howl of the monkeys, and the roaring of the sea we can still offer this environmentally friendly “Ocean Breeze” option.

BEACHFRONT BUNGALOWS
While having the same design and facilities as the Bungalows with air conditioning and the ocean breeze, two of our bungalows have the privilege of being located directly in front of the beach. The ocean front terrace is ideal for a romantic, private candlelight dinner.

BEACHFRONT GARDEN ROOMS
The two Beachfront Garden Rooms are situated on the ground floor and both have spectacular ocean vistas. The spacious bathrooms each have a shower and a Jacuzzi. Wide sliding doors open up onto a contemporary, tropical terrace with a wooden deck that offers an amazing ocean view which can be enjoyed while lying in the hammock.

BEACHFRONT SUITES
With a breathtaking oceanfront location, direct access to the beach and a spectacular view to the Pacific Ocean, the Beachfront suites are both spacious and cozy. They offer a comfortable living area and spacious bathrooms. The terraces as well as the balcony are ideal for romantic candle light dinners.

Beachfront Suite ground floor
The Beachfront suite located on the ground floor has wide sliding glass doors that fully open in such a way that the extensive wooden terrace is incorporated into the unit. This allows for a unique ocean view and it is perfect for relaxing moments in the hammocks. The elegant bathroom offers a spacious shower.

Beachfront Suite upper floor
The Beachfront suite located upstairs offers large windows, a wide balcony with a hammock and a spacious bathroom with a double sink, double jacuzzi and a shower.

The wide balcony, featuring a hammock, is also ideal for relaxing moments and romantic candle light dinners.

FOUR-BEDROOM SUITE
The four-bedroom suite is situated on the second floor of the main building and overlooks lush tropical grounds. There are four bedrooms, all with air conditioning, a safe deposit box and a telephone. One bedroom has a king size bed and access to the balcony, one has a queen size bed and the other two each have two single beds; one with an exit to the balcony. As part of this unit there is a spacious living room which unlike the rooms does not have air conditioning. Thanks to its design and the ceiling fans the inside keeps fresh through natural air circulation. The huge balcony with a hammock invites guests to relax and enjoy the pleasant atmosphere. It has two bathrooms with a double sink and an extra lavatory. One bathroom has a jacuzzi, shower, and bidet, while the other has a shower.
