There’s no place on earth like Tarangire National Park. Just 2.5 hours south-west of Arusha, this 2,850 square kilometer park is known for staggering herds of elephants, thousands of buffalo crashing across the Tarangire River, and more than 550 species of birds.

The Tarangire river and wetlands pull animals all through the year, assuring that when you come to Tarangire, you will likely see everything Tanzania is famous for, including wildebeest, waterbuck, giraffe, impala, gazelle, lions, cheetahs, wild dogs, leopards, and, at times, thousands of zebra -- all without the crowds of the Serengeti.

With more animals and fewer visitors than the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, this often-overlooked park gives you something that’s hard to find elsewhere -- solitude. Here, you’re more likely to see large game and birds in complete serenity, with no one else around. Peak season in Tarangire is July - October. This is the dry season, which forces thousands of animals to the river and swamps. It’s also when the number of elephants in the park can reach 3,000.

Lolkisale Camp is situated right in the heart of the park, on the edge of an open wetland. Here, you’ll have the unique experience of watching the drama of nature unfold while sipping a coffee or wine on your front porch. In these wetlands, the view changes each day as different herds pass by in search of water, and after them, the big cats that inevitably follow. And, since this camp is so well situated within the park, your adventure begins at first light. There’s no waiting at the gate to get in.

Lolkisale boutique camp is composed of seven, custom-designed luxury safari tents with attention paid to every detail. Everything from the soothing color palette, to locally-woven rugs, to the soft touch of your sheets at night was selected to bring luxury and local flavor to this secluded corner of Tanzania's most beautiful national park.
