Richard's River Camp

Richard's River Camp offers the discerning traveller a luxury tented camp in the very heart of the Masai Mara. Designed with privacy, exclusivity as well as adventure in mind we ensure a warm and memorable safari.

Richard’s River Camp was initially established as Richard and Liz’s ‘home away from home’ in 2006 when their son Willoughby was born. Perfectly situated on the banks of the Njageteck River in the private Mara North Conservancy, the camp allows for total privacy and exclusivity. The Ngoyanai springs provide permanent water, drawing in large numbers of animals to the area around camp. This camp is also particularly known for its resident lion pride which can often been seen hunting right in front of the camp, and most always can be heard roaring during the night.

With only seven tents, this camp is ideal for individuals as well as exclusive groups who wish to experience the Masai Mara in a personal intimate setting. Beautifully appointed with furnishings and fabrics collected by Liz on her travels - the result is a casually luxurious tented camp, combining exceptional wildlife with a contemporary ‘Out of Africa’ experience.
 

Luxury tent (5 rooms)
The luxury tents are spacious and beautifully furnished in comfortable safari style. All tents have 24 hour solar lighting.  Each canvas tent is a customized design which allows for significant size, air flow and light. Raised on concrete platforms with low wooden steps, the tent walls are high with netted windows and a lowroof pitch, therefore creating a fantastic airflow and good ventilation throughout. The tents are beige in colour and the ceilings have been covered with hand printed fabric which makes the tent interior brighter compared to the standard dark green canvas in other properties.

The rooms consist of a large bedroom area, behind which there is a dressing room followed by the bathroom. The dressing rooms can accommodate up to two extra beds each should it be required - therefore each standard tent can sleep up to four people. 

Family tent
The family tent consists of two luxury tents interconnected by a central living area. This tent is ideal for families or close groups traveling together - there is a partition that can be drawn down between the two sleeping units for privacy.

The canvas is beige in colour and the ceilings have been covered with hand printed fabric which makes the tent interior brighter compared to the standard dark green canvas in other properties.

The two units consist of a large bedroom area, behind each of these there is a dressing room followed by the bathrooms. The dressing rooms can accommodate up to two extra beds each should it be required - therefore the family tent can potentially sleep up to eight people.



Bathroom details: each double & family tent are en-suite with flushing toilets and shower areas:
- Hot and cold running water
- Soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion provided


- Power system does not support hairdryers, shavers or any other high wattage device.
