Rondon Ridge

In the Western Highlands of PNG, way up high on the outer fringes of the Kubor Range lies Rondon Ridge, a first class nature lodge. Boasting sweeping views of the Wahgi Valley below, the lodge is a wonderful blend of luxury in a remote mountain rainforest setting.  This is the perfect first stop on the ultimate PNG trip. The dining room serves wholesome meals with incredible views over the valleys.

Rondon Ridge is a 40-minute drive from the town of Mount Hagen along a bumpy mountain road and just under an hour from the airport. There are several daily flights between Mount Hagen and the Port Moresby. This is the perfect hub for access to Ambua Lodge, Karawari Lodge, MV Sepik Spirit and Bensbach Wildlife Lodge with the lodge’s air service.

Guests are accommodated in twenty-four tastefully appointed rooms with modern en-suite bathrooms and warmed king beds for those fresh highlands nights. Rondon Ridge has 24-hour, eco-friendly electricity, provided by its own hydroelectric power plant that generates clean, natural energy from a nearby mountain stream.

There are numerous hiking paths around the lodge providing ample opportunity to explore the unique ecology of this area. 180 species of birds have been spotted in the rainforests around the lodge including ten species of Bird of Paradise. The surrounding area is pristine rainforest and home to numerous orchid species. All nature and birding walks are accompanied by experienced and knowledgeable nature

Just 40 minutes away from Hagen City, the business heart of the Papua New Guinea highlands, this is a fascinating region where the stone age meets the age of steel. Important industries here include tea, coffee, mining and transportation.  You will meet the Melpa People to learn how traditional ways are juxtaposed with the modern world. First contact with the Melpa was made in the mid-1930s when the Leahy brothers were prospecting for gold. The Melpa have a complex traditional society built on capitalist ideals in which the men earn status by accruing wealth and then giving it all away in a ceremonial exchange called "Moka". The Lodge has a variety of comfortable touring vehicles and all excursions are accompanied by experienced local guides.
