San Ignacio Glamping Camp

Baja Expedition’s San Ignacio glamping camp welcomes whale lovers of all ages. This is your base for 4 (or 7) fun-filled days of Pacific Gray Whale encounters (Jan-Apr).  The beach camps feature fire pits and a bar and lounge tent, serving fine wine, craft beer and single malt scotches, big comfy couches and even a pool table!

Windproof, insulated and heated, the premium wilderness tents are built to withstand the coldest nights in the desert. Your comfort comes first, and each tent features real beds, fine linens and plush pillows, an ensuite bathroom with hot and cold running water and excellent pressure, and 24-hour power and lights. There is Wi-Fi access everywhere in camp. Special discounts are available for kids so bring the family! Upgrades to even more luxurious glamping is an option.

San Ignacio Gray Whales - Jan-Apr  3 nights / 4 days
Each winter gray whales migrate to the warm, shallow waters of San Ignacio Lagoon to mate and calve; bringing the world’s most extraordinary wildlife encounters. Come face to face with these gentle giants while staying in remote, beachfront glamping tents.Above water, San Ignacio Lagoon is an adventure lovers’ paradise. Whether hiking, mountain biking, kayaking or birding, uncover the wild, rugged desert coastline; spending evenings marveling at the uninterrupted starlit sky. This is where dreamlike encounters become a reality. It’s recommended to spend a night before and after the trip in Cabo. Two styles of camping available - Glamping & Luxury!


Itinerary:
Day 1 - Arrival to San Ignacio Welcome! Bienvenidos! We will collect you directly from your Cabo Hotel at approximately 7:00am for a morning transfer to the Cabo San Lucas airport. Our private Cessna charter aircraft complete with leather seats and air conditioning makes the two hour flight up to remote San Ignacio a breeze! Upon arrival to Camp Tio Timo, you will be welcomed by our expert naturalist guides and attentive hostesses with champagne mimosas, before whisking you away to get straight out onto the water with the gray whales! Get ready to watch out for spouts! Following your first whale encounters, you will return to camp for fully catered meals and to enjoy all our camp has on offer. Take out a kayak or paddleboard, or grab an ice cream or cold drink from the bar to enjoy the spectacular sunsets over the lagoon from our prime beachfront location.

Days 2-3 - Whales, Whales, Whales! Whale watching to your heart’s content! We will start our whale watching sessions at 8:00am and continue through sunset, and you can expect three to four 90-minute encounters each day, dependent on capacity restrictions at the lagoon. Our goal is to ensure you get the most out of this once in a lifetime experience with these incredible cetaceans. Accompanied by our knowledgeable guides, watch them roll, breach, spyhop, and tend to their young. You may even get the chance to stroke these incredible creatures. In your downtime, you can take out one of the kayaks for a paddle on the calm lagoon waters or explore the shoreline tide pools, watching out for the diverse bird life in the surrounding mangroves. Our attentive staff will assure you are served delicious, fresh meals and have everything you need.

Day 4 - Departure All good things must come to an end. Following breakfast, our private charter plane will return to Cabo San Lucas at 10:30am, with an arrival time around 12:30pm. We recommend scheduling your departure flight no earlier than 3:30pm. Of course, we don’t want you to leave and we encourage you to join us for more adventures in the Sea of Cortez, Cabo Pulmo and Magdalena Bay!

Think of our luxury tents as one of the best pop-up hotel suites. The Luxury camp features all the amenities of the glamping camp, but with 12 large and luxurious tents, ensuring the utmost privacy. Each tent features an ensuite bathroom, a dresser in the bedroom as well as a separate sitting area with a couch and easy chairs – perfect for relaxing after a day of adventure.


Ultimate Whale Adventure  - 8 days (Jan-Mar)

Start off with an ocean safari with SeeCreatures. Luxury coach transfer to La Paz. Check-in at a beautiful breachfront hotel. Next day, travel to Espiritu Santo Island and swim with whale sharks, sea lions, or enjoy kayaking, shore hikes and beach walks. Afternoon boarding our 116-ft expedition yacht and set sail to the Mechudo Corridor.

The Mechudo Corridor is alive with whales! Whale watching and exploration. Blue and fin whales, plus humpbacks and often mega pods of dolphins. Lookout for orcas and sperm whales. Our airplane spotter will guide to the hottest action. Travel back to La Paz. Morning private charter flight to San Ignacio Lagoon.

Arrive to San Ignacio Lagoon. Meet the gray whales, the friendliest whales in the world. You can count on a choice of accommodation levels including glamping & luxury tents with ensuite bathrooms and showers inside the tents, easy and convenient 2 hour charter flights, up to eight whale watching trips in the lagoon and the compulsive attention to details that Nautilus is known for from real beds with fine linen, fire pits, a selection of craft beer, single malts and a great wine list.

The Itinerary:

Day 1          Arrival - Cabo

Head over to SeeCreatures in San Jose del Cabo to get set up for your adventure. Join an optional photo workshop. There’s a 5-hour ocean safari with lunch and arrival at La Paz. Check into Marea Hotel and dinner at this beachfront hotel.

Day 2        Espiritu Santo Island Adventures

Swimming with Whale Sharks in the morning and Espiritu Santo adventures with Sea Lions in the afternoon. Enjoy a mangrove exploration, kayaking and shore hikes. Late afternoon, board the 116 ft expedition yacht, Nautilus Gallant Lady. Set sailing for Mechudo Corridor.

Days 3-4    Mechudo Corridor

The Mechudo Corridor is alive with whales! Whale watching and exploration as far north as Loreto National park. Blue and fin whales, plus humpbacks and often mega pods of dolphin. We’ll be on the lookout for orcas and sperm whales too thanks to our airplane spotter.

Day 5        San Ignacio Lagoon

Return to La Paz and private air charter to San Ignacio Lagoon. After a welcome champagne, we’re off to more whale encounters with the gray whales - the friendliest whales on the planet and our San Ignacio eco-Glamp.

Days 6-7    Gray Whales & More

Your choice of three whale encounters session a day or enjoy being in camp. Hiking, nature walks, mountain biking, bird watching or beach combing. Evening presentations with our naturalist and stargazing galore.

Day 8        Whales & Departure

One last morning to say farewell to the delightful gray whales. Private charter flight back to Cabo.

San Ignacio 7 days – 6 nights

Many of our guests have told us that 4 days and 3 nights is just too short. They might have got in as many as 9 gray whale encounters but they are not ready and don’t want to go home. Jan-Apr

These special trips feature 3 additional days in camp include an adventure up into the mountains to explore cave paintings as old as 15,000 years, visiting the serene incredibly still and quiet brilliant white Salinas salt flats with our naturalist. a guided tour into the town of San Ignacio to visit one of the best restored missions in Baja and visit the local museum. Hiking. Kayaking. Relaxing. Or just plain doing more whale watching (available for a small additional fee).
