Tompotika Dive Lodge

Tompotika is a small eco dive resort on the remote coast of central Sulawesi on the tip of the Balantak Peninsula. By small, we mean small! There’s only three traditional style bungalows on the beach which are completely integrated into the local Indonesian village. Tompotika is the brainchild of Jerome and Yani, also known as Wallacea Dive Cruise, a liveaboard operator with 12 years of diving experience in Indonesia. You know you will be in good hands here. The accommodations consist of 3 spacious and tastefully appointed bungalows on the beach, 2 with double bed and one with twin beds. They have ensuite bathrooms, sea views from your terrace and 24/7 electricity. There is also a restaurant and dive center.

You are truly a part of the charming village of Kamapanar and will help with their community conservation efforts to protect this wonderful region. Along with the village, the lodge is the base of a marine conservation project to protect about 20 km of coastline against abusive and destructive fishing practices. 

Diving! The reefs in the area are mostly rocky ridges and pinnacles, covered with black corals, gorgonians and soft corals. Currents can be consistent on some of the dives, depending on the moon phase. The pinnacles and ridges are very rich in fish with surgeon fish schools, barracudas, giant trevallies, Spanish macquerels and more. On the black sandy slope, just in front of the bungalows, you will discover frogfish, hairy frogfish, blue ring octopus and ghost pipe fish. The best diving is October through April.

Other activities include sea kayaking to neighboring beaches and hiking to spot the special Maleo bird. There’s trekking on Tompotika mountain, motorbiking, mountain biking and sailing available. The beaches here magnificent and the perfect place to just chill.

The nearest airport is Luwuk, receiving flights from Manado (3 times a week), Palu and Ujung Pandang. From Jakarta or Surabaya there are 2 or 3 daily flights, including Sriwijaya, Garuda and Lion Air. Once you arrive in Luwuk, the lodge is 3 hours away from Luwuk airport by car.
