Xigera Safari Lodge

The completely rebuilt Xigera (“kee-jera”) is a bold new safari lodge set in the heart of the Okavango Delta on the aptly named Paradise Island.

Opening in June 2020, it is surrounded by deep channels and lush vegetation within a remote area of the productive Moremi Game Reserve. For much of the year this magnificent area epitomises the permanently flooded areas of the Okavango Delta, with palm-filled islands, riverine forests, interwoven channels and expansive floodplains.

With just 12 suites showcasing the finest southern African artisans, Xigera has been innovatively designed to protect its pristine environment; it is 100% solar powered, with a dedicated focus on sustainability and eliminating single use plastics. Every spacious suite will be fully air conditioned.

Highlights

  • This true wetland paradise is a delight for birdwatchers and lovers of tranquil beauty
  • The best place in the Delta to see the elusive sitatunga antelope
  • Learn about the fascinating formation of the incredible Okavango Delta

The Xigera Family Suite is comprised of two en-suite bedrooms (one of which has a fixed king-size bed while the other has twin beds which can be converted into a king-size bed using a mattress converter), each with dressing room and outdoor shower; interleading lounge; and a private deck with outdoor daybed.

Game Drives
Game drives explore further afield, where wildlife like lion, leopard and hyaena, buffalo and elephant can be seen. Our open Land Rovers each accommodate a maximum of seven guests allowing each guest a ‘window’ outside seat. Please note that there are no night drives at Xigera.

Mokoro Excursions*
There is no better way of viewing game and capturing the essence of the Okavango than by traditional mokoro (dugout canoe). The Okavango-born guide and poler will reveal the wiles and secrets of living in the Delta while you spot tiny frogs and colourful waterbirds. *This activity is water-level dependent.

Boating*
Water-level dependent, boating is another idyllic form of viewing water-based wildlife. Hippo and crocodile are often seen on these adventures, and sometimes even the elusive sitatunga. *This activity is water-level dependent.

Fishing
Fishing with a limited supply of basic equipment is on offer seasonally on a catch-and-release basis. Please note that fishing takes place in waters outside of the Moremi since fishing is not allowed within the Game Reserve.

Birding
Xigera Camp is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Aside from the famous Pel’s fishing-owl, waterbirds large and small, colourful and secretive are seen here, such as African skimmer, slaty egret, wattled crane and much more
