Casa Santo Domingo

In 1979 UNESCO declared the colonial city of La Antigua Guatemala as a World Cultural Heritage Site turning it to a recognized treasure of exceptional value before the eyes of the world. In the XVII, the Convent of Santo Domingo was one of the largest in America and in 1773, the earthquake of Santa Marta almost totally destroyed it.

In 1989, the project known as Casa Santo Domingo was developed with the primary objective of rescuing the vestiges of the Convent and Temple buried under tons of rubble.

Hotel Museum Spa Casa Santo Domingo progressively emerged where each corner is a page lost in time that joins others to form a beautiful chapter of the great book of local history. When you enter through a small door, prepare yourself to be transported to another place and time. In this innovative Hotel-Museum-Spa, every traveler will enjoy a comfortable stay. The Museums at Hotel Casa Santo Domingo are located in what once was The Convent of Santo Domingo with six permanent museums and two art galleries with temporary exhibits.

The gastronomy of La Antigua Guatemala has a variety of traditional dishes since it was the city where the Spanish and indigenous culture merged. Different dishes are offered depending on the region and most of them have touches of Mayan cuisine based on chilies, beans and corn. The first culinary art creations to become part of the country’s cultural heritage are the Jocón, Pepián, Kaq’ik and and the Plátanos en Mole. Nowadays, La Antigua Guatemala is a gastronomic center.

The hotel is in a perfect area to explore the historical sites of the city as well as museums and galleries. There are also access points to walks in nature.
