Illa Experience Hotel

Illa Experience Hotel’s goal is to portray Quito for what it really is, a place full of traditions, authenticity and charisma. For that reason, the family who created Illa shares their own traditions with their guests every day. Guests can join two daily experiences. The hotel dates back to the colonial era in Quito, more than two centuries ago, and has been restored so guests can witness the three different epochs of the house: colonial, republican and modern. All of the style and harmony has been kept together with delightful details that have stories to tell themselves.

Illa is located in thriving San Marcos, one of Quito's true and most real bohemian and traditional neighborhoods. San Marcos has been home to artisans, artists, musicians, politicians and historians. You will find real families walking on the streets, kids playing soccer and families talking in the main plaza. Illa wants their guests to really feel part of this community and that is , why you’ll interact with the neighborhood’s artists, chefs and others.

Illa’s restaurant is now one of the most famous restaurants in the country and it is truly an experience. It does not have a menu as the chef likes to prepare a tasting menu based on what is available from the local farm. Its style focuses on Ecuadorian Author Cuisine, which is a type of cuisine based on local products with contemporary techniques.

The tastefully decorated rooms allow travelers to enjoy not only the style and luxury of first-class accommodation, but also richness of Ecuador’s history. The hotel has 10 rooms, 6 Standard Luxury; 2 Suites and 4 Suites. Those rooms are divided in 3 floors (Colonial; Republican and Contemporary). Each floor of the hotel is inspired by a different historical period, and each room offers a change in perspective. Some rooms overlook the iconic calle Junín, and others offer a view of the Virgen del Panecillo, one of Quito’s most glorious landmarks. The city of Quito has built itself layer over layer: from indigenous ancestors to the Inca Empire, the Spanish colony, and the Ecuadorian Republic, each chapter has left a distinct mark.

Suites

Relax in this spacious room, overlooking the mix of colonial architecture and day-to-day life that gives Junín street its charm. Have a seat in one of our artisan-crafted armchairs and enjoy a glass of wine, or a mug of hot chocolate. Curl up in bed with a hand-embroidered blanket, and take in the details of each element of this beautiful Republican-era design. Relax in the bathtub with our luxurious L’occitane amenities.

Master Suite

In our Panecillo Suite, you’ll enjoy the best view in Quito, and that’s only the beginning. Wake up to blue skies in sunny Quito, a backdrop to the stunning statue of the city’s Virgin atop the Panecillo hill. From the comfort of our artisan-crafted armchairs you can enjoy a delicious macaron or a traditional quesadilla. Let Illa take you back in time with the Republican-style architecture of early 20th century mansions. Soak in the bathtub with our luxurious L’occitane amenities.

Illa Experience Hotel features two authentic daily outings for lucky guests to immerse yourselves in their vibrant neighborhood scene. These outings can be tailored to your tastes and interests. You might visit the workshop of a local artisan and observe as he hand-carves traditional wooden toys. You might also try your artistic self through watercolor painting in one of the neighborhood’s many art studios, with one of the museum's artists. You might taste a classic Quiteño treat, helado de paila – homemade ice cream spun in a wide copper bowl. Or you may simply stroll down peaceful Junin street and let its colorful architecture recount the city’s layered history.
